Submission of control samples [Performance Evaluation Samples] to monitor performance of a laboratory is a vitally integral part of an environmental, exploration or mining project. The identity and concentration of analytes should not be known by the laboratory - to this end control standard labeling, packaging, and physical and chemical composition should mimic those of the routine samples to mask the identity of the sample to the laboratory. In laboratories, reference materials play an important role in the quality assessment system. Simply put, reference materials are substances that validate the measurement process. Certified reference materials (CRM), reference materials issued and certified by an organisation generally accepted to be technically competent, are available commercially but are expensive. Laboratory Quality Management Services Pty Ltd can work with environmental and mineral laboratories to prepare high quality, but relatively inexpensive, "in-house" standards that appropriately adhere to ISO and Standards Australia guidelines. We confirm homogeneity and ensure that certification confirms the standards reliability.
